qualification of fire safety cables designed for installation in premises (tunnels) of the Prague subway (24.10.2011 )

Kabelovna Kabex a.s  - qualification of fire safety cables designed for installation in premises (tunnels) of the Prague subway

In the year 2010 and 2011 Kabelovna Kabex a.s. participated in testing of fire safety cables (fireproof and fire-retardant) designed for usage in premises (tunnel routes) of the Prague subway.

The tests were performed according to specified conditions of Dopravní podnik hlavního města Prahy (hereinafter referred to as „DP“), actually according to Direction nr. 9/2009.

This direction specifies new, mainly normative fire safety requirements placed on equipments and systems for usage in the Prague subway.

Cable tests were performed according to the „Specified conditions for tests of cable lines functionality in case of fire for the Prague subway“ (defined in Protocol nr. 14/2010-TŘ).

Opening clause:

Specified conditions contain supplemental technical requirements for Test specification ZP-27/2008, in accordance with the Direction of GŘ nr. 9/2009 Principles of fire safety for design and construction of the Prague subway, stipulated by DP.

It is tested according to the Test specification ZP-27/2008 of authorized fire test room Pavus a.s., AO 216, and according to undermentioned specified conditions of DP.

Specified conditions of DP.:

  1. Fire resistance of cables and cable steel supporting structures as complex are tested at the temperature of +750°C within 90 minutes.
  2. It is tested according to the fire scenario of the test submitter stipulated by DP. The test commences after reaching the testing temperature of 750°C, this temperature is constant within the entire test and this test is terminated after elapse of 90 minutes.
  3. Fireproof cables (V) are used at the test. These cables maintain their functional ability according to the Norm ČSN IEC 60331-21, 23 and 25 within min. 90 minutes with higher resistance to spread of flame according to ČSN EN 50 266-2-2, halogen-free. Smoke products of burning of these cables have to comply with the criteria of conductivity  ≤ 2,5 µS/mm and pH ≥ 4,3 according to ČSN EN 50267-2-3 and according to the requirement on coefficient of smoke permeability ≥ 80%.

For the test purposes there were tested the cables installed on special cable constructions supplied by the company Metrostav.

Kabelovna Kabex a.s. tested  the power, communication and optical cables according to the new fire technical requirements

The cable testing was divided into 3 separate tests in order to test the cables from reputable cable producers and at the same time to test all the special supporting constructions used in the tunnel constructions of the Prague subway.

The last test was performed on 5th of May 2011 when Kabelovna Kabex a.s. successfully terminated the testing of fire safety fireproof cables for the Prague subway.

Kabelovna Kabex a.s. tested:

low voltage power cables (0,6/1 kV) according to technical conditions TP nr. KBX 7/02

communication cables (voltage up to 500V) according to technical conditions TP nr. KBX 2/02

optical cables according to technical conditions TP 3/96

In conclusion it is neccessary to mention that Kabelovna Kabex a.s. managed to stand in this stricter testing requirements with the entire above mentioned range of cables.

As the only company Kabelovna Kabex a.s. tested apart from optical cables also its unique system TrUBEX HFFR including the connecting system (brass joints).

Currently (June 2011) we are waiting for issuance of the testing protocols and PKO (fire classification certificates) that will be confirming the performance of successful certification of cable systems for the purposes of usage in the Prague subway.
